Five small ways to check in with yourself today

You don't need an hour or a journal. These five practices take under a minute each.

You don't have to make a big deal of it

Self-awareness doesn't require a 30-minute meditation or a detailed journal entry. Sometimes it's just a quick pause to notice what's going on.

Here are five ways to check in with yourself today:

1. Name the feeling, not the event. Instead of "work was stressful," try "I felt overwhelmed and a little defeated." The specificity helps.

2. Ask where you feel it. Emotions live in the body. Tight chest? Shoulders up around your ears? Noticing the physical location can help you release it.

3. Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. Sometimes quantifying a feeling gives you a handle on it. A 6 is manageable. A 9 needs attention.

4. Log it somewhere. Even one sentence. Your phone notes app. A sticky note. Or Moodly (which will write back).

5. Ask yourself what you need. Not what you should do. What you actually need. Water, quiet, a conversation, rest?

That's it. Five moments. The point is to create a habit of noticing before the feeling becomes noise you can't hear through.
